There are millions of websites, web directories linking to thousands of
sites, and subject specific guides pointing to hundreds of sites. In the
interest of saving time, we're going to highlight some of the links from
the Library Network webpage.
Larger compilations of sites can be found through the Multnomah County
Library and the Internet Public Library.
Government:Federal
THOMAS: Legislative Information on the
Internet
Full-text of recent Congressional Bills and Public Laws, the
Congressional Record, and Congressional Committee reports and meeting
schedules. Includes links to House and Senate directories and other
departments of the federal government.
FirstGov
A subject guide to U.S. Government websites, arranged by topic. You can
access a government departments main page, or access more specific subject
information buried within reams of other government publications.
FedStats
A topical guide to statistical information from over 100 federal
government agencies. Searchable by topic, program or subject area, and
agency. Includes a clickable map for finding general statistics by state,
county, and congressional district.
Government: Oregon
Oregon Blue Book
The official directory and manual for Oregon, with state, county, and
local statistical information, a guide to state elected officials, and a
guide to cultural and educational institutions in Oregon. Includes a kids
page!
Oregon State Legislature
Track bills through the state legislature, including seeing the
different versions and following the committee schedules. Includes a link
to the full-text of the 1999 Oregon Revised Statutes.

Search by agency name or chapter number.
Government: Local
CascadeLink
A guide to organizations and government agencies in Oregon and
Washington, including city governments, schools, and parks and rec
programs.
Clackamas County
What else but our own Clackamas County web page, with information about
the departments and their services. The internal web page is available
from your work computer (if it's on the county's computer system) at http://viper.co.clackamas.or.us/

Health Sources
MEDLINEplus
Authoritative health information, reviewed by the National Library of
Medicine for accuracy and accessibility. Health information is arranged by
broad topic, or specific subjects can be searched. Includes drug
information and links to medical dictionaries. The general National
Library of Medicine site provides access to PubMed
(an index of research oriented medical journals) and ClinicalTrials.gov.
Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention
Statistical and pamphlet information on a broad range of topics covered
by the CDC. Includes general safety information (such as playground
safety) and less pleasant topics such as Ebola and tapeworm infections.
OHSU Consumer
Health Resources Center
Information for women's health, children's health, and consumer links.
MayoClinic Health Oasis
Selected topics with consumer health information: Allergy and Asthma,
Alzheimer's, Arthritis, Cancer, Children's, Digestive, Heart, Medicine,
Men's, Nutrition, and Women's.
Consumer Information
Edmund's Car Buying Guide
New and used car evaluations and pricing, with advice on how to buy a
car, choosing whether to buy or lease, road tests, and recall information.
When people refer to the "Blue book", they're talking about the Kelley
Blue Book, which is quite similar to the NADA
price guides.
Federal Consumer Information
Center (Pueblo, CO)
Over 200 brochures available from over 40 government agencies on such topics as cars,
children and parenting, employment, money management, and travel. Their Public Service Announcements from the 70's, 80's, 90's, and 00's are also available to watch online.
Better Business Bureau
Reliability reports, a resource library, and an online form for registering complaints. Also
includes information for businesses to become BBB members, information about
educational programs, and links to the national BBB and other consumer protection
agencies.
Career Guidance and Job Searches
Occupational
Outlook Handbook
The online version of the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Provides description of
occupations, working conditions, career opportunities, related occupations, training and
education requirements, and earnings information.
Monster.com
One
of the best job-hunting sites on the web! This site includes hundreds of
thousands of job listings, resumes of people looking for jobs, and career
advice for everyone. Pay particular attention to the resume-building
tools.
HotJobs
Much
like Monster.com, this is another online job site that allows the user to
search by field or profession, by location, and/or by job keyword.
Employment
911
Still another website to check out when looking for
a job. Pay particular attention to the "Career Help!" section:
it includes interviewing and resume tips, salary negotiation tips, salary
and relocation calculators, and other relocation information.
Oregon Employment
Department
The agency's mission is to "promote the employment of Oregonians, encourage quality child
care, and provide support during periods of unemployment."
