MacintoshInstructions for getting and using telnet software for an Apple MacintoshNot having a MAC in the office, we can only recommend what a few others have said are good programs. That software would be either 'BetterTelnet' or 'NCSA Telnet'.Find BetterTelnet or NCSA Telnet on the MAC Telnet page and click on the download icon. In many cases, the software will expand itself and install it into a usable form after the download, but if it doesn't, you will need to go to the Alladin Systems homepage and download StuffIt Expander for for the Mac. Now that you have BetterTelnet installed, open Netscape if it isn't open already. Select "Options" in the menu bar at the top of your screen. Select "General Preferences". A window will pop up, and you need to select "Applications" from the choices it gives you. There will be a part at the top of the window that says "Telnet Applications". To the right of that will be a button that says "Browse". Click on that button and another window will open, asking you to select your telnet application. Find where BetterTelnet is on you hard drive and highlight it. Once it's highlighted, press the "Okay" button and that window will disappear, leaving you the the open window in Netscape. It's now save to click "Okay" at the bottom of this window, since you have just let Netscape know which application to use and where it's located. That window will close, leaving you with a regular browser window. For Internet Explorer, open the browser and select Preferences from the Edit menu. On the left side of the window, the side bar has the menu of preference categories. Open Network and click on Protocol Helpers. Scroll down in the window on the right to "telnet". Select the Change button to open a window to search the hard drive for BetterTelnet. Then sequentially close these windows with "OK" buttons and proceed as in the Netscape instructions above. Before proceeding, please read the instructions just above Logging into Linas. Now go back to the top of this page and click on the "Access LINAS via the Internet" link. BetterTelnet should open and the LINAS banner in big block letters will show up in a few seconds (your computer needs a few seconds to establish a link to the LINAS computer).
Other platforms can get telnet software at Tucows.Com. | |
AOL UsersInstructions for getting and using telnet software for AOL UsersSince AOL uses 'proxies', you need to use telnet software from them. The only information I can give is to do a Search while on AOL, keyword: telnet. Following their instructions, download and install their preferred software. That should allow you to telnet to us. |
