TYPE AND TEAM BUILDING: THE CONSTRUCTIVE USE OF
DIFFERENCE
In this two-hour workshop, participants will learn from George Austin how
an understanding and application of personality type, as scored by the
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, will enhance their effectiveness as team leaders
or team members: in communicating, problem solving, and decision making with
people of different personality types and styles. George Austin has
been involved in organizational training and development for 15 years and
he has seven years experience using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator for employee
counseling, team building and management development.

ARE WE UP TO THE LASER
CHALLENGE?
Most educators grew up in the era of linear information -- one page follows
another, d is after c, picture frame 134 is after 133 -- and learned teaching
techniques based on this information structure. But technology has
changed the linear flow of information and requires new methods of learning.
Are we up to the challenge of laser discs and computers? Jan Snyder
is the district media coordinator for Oregon City Schools where her motto
is "We'll make it work!" Allan Dunn is a teacher and the district
technology coordinator for Oregon City Schools. He is getting old,
but continues to put up a good fight!
-
COOL DUDES AGAINST THE CDERS OF THE
90s
How does the student of the sixties compare with students of today in researching
information with technology? The battle could get ugly, CDs may fly,
but you'll be there to witness the challenge with Jan Snyder and Allan
Dunn!
-
LIBRARY DESIGN AND
RENOVATION
PART ONE -- Getting what you want
without spending all you have
Carl Mosely has 14 years of construction project management experience. He
has also, oddly enough, served twice as provisional director of the Clackamas
County Library. In the past few years he has been involved with the
design and construction of several libraries, including West Linn, Canby,
Clackamas County and Clackamas Community College. Carl will discuss
proven approaches and helpful ideas to renovate your library on a limited
budget. Topics will include how to get professional design help at
a (somewhat) reasonable price, plus many things you and your staff can do
on your own. "Super presentation... very
specific, relevant, and interesting."
PART TWO -- Taming the extension cord
jungle
Janet Murray, Head Librarian at Wilson High School in Portland, has recently
renovated her library to accommodate electronic access to information. Janet
will discuss how to plan flexible spaces for computerized access to information,
assess prsent and anticipated future needs and maximize supervision in a
user-friendly environment.
-
UPHOLDING INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM IN
OREGON
Mary Ginnane, Rural/Small Library Development Consultant, Oregon State Library,
will describe the Oregon Intellectual Freedom Clearinghouse and explain how
to use its services. Participants will be introduced to intellectual
freedom principles and hear about the policies and procedures which assist
libraries in upholding intellectual freedom.
-
MEET THE PRESS
This panel of media folks will discuss how to get your news "in the news."
They will talk about writing press releases and public service
announcements; using the right format, and making it informative and interesting.
The panel will consist of Jan Wilkerson, news director at KINK FM 102,
Dan McCue, reporter for the South Metro section of the Oregonian and Carolyn
Brattain from the public affairs office at KGW-TV.
